Egyptian ambassador attends inauguration ceremony of Ghana’s President

CAIRO – 8 January 2021: Egyptian ambassador in Accra Emad Hanna attended the swearing-in ceremony of Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo for the second term on January 7, 2021.

 

Hanna voiced President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s congratulations to his Ghanaian counterpart, affirming Egypt’s support for the development of the African continent.

 

On January 5, 2021, President Sisi received Ghana’s Special Presidential Envoy Ambassador Annan Cato, where they discussed a number of issues of bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Ghana in the fields of trade and investment and witnessed the exchange of experiences on dealing with the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

 

Egypt's role in supporting Ghana's efforts in development by sharing its comprehensive development experience, was also showcased during the meeting, said Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement.

 

Ghana’s Special Presidential Envoy expressed his honor to meet the President, conveying the greetings from the President of the Republic of Ghana and stressing the historical, long-standing ties between the two countries and peoples. Ambassador Annan Cato appreciated, in this context, Egypt’s pivotal role as a fundamental pillar of stability, security and peace in the African continent.

 

The Spokesperson added that the President asked that his greetings be conveyed to his brother, President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo, affirming that the historical relations between the two countries are of central importance and that Ghana is held in high regard by the Egyptian people. President El-Sisi expressed Egypt's keenness to strengthen relations with Ghana, which represents a model for building and cooperation between the African countries for the benefit of the peoples of the continent, through the optimum use of capacities and resources in Africa.

 

President El-Sisi also expressed his confidence in the effective contributions of his brother, the President of Ghana, in light of Ghana's hosting of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which will have a positive impact on supporting economic cooperation and developing intra-African trade. It was agreed to strengthen joint efforts, in this respect, to ensure the effective functioning of the AfCFTA and to increase the steps of economic and trade integration between the countries of the continent.
