CAIRO - 9 September 2020: The Health Ministry said Tuesday that 187 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 100,228.
In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 19 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 5,560.
As many as 878 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 79,886 so far, the spokesman said.
Since early August, the daily toll dropped below 200, registering a record drop in daily reported cases on 22 August with only 89 new infections, the lowest daily tally since April.
However, Egyptian officials have repeatedly urged caution to avoid a second wave of the pandemic, particularly with the advent of autumn and the beginning of the academic year.
