Egypt’s COVID-19 daily briefing: 950 new cases, 53 deaths

CAIRO – 9 July 2020: Egypt recorded, Thursday 950 new coronavirus cases were, upping the total number of infections to 79,254.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 53 patients died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the overall death toll to 3,617.

As many as 512 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, bringing the total number of recoveries to 22,753 so far, the spokesman added.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Thursday urged continuing national efforts to counter economic challenges as a consequence for the spread of the novel coronavirus, in a meeting with ministers, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement.

Meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli, Supply Minister Ali Al-Moselhi, Planning Minister Hala Al-Saeed, Finance Minister Mohamed Maeet, Social Solidarity Minister Nevin Al-Qabbaj, and Industry Minister Nevin Game’, Sisi urged providing strategic products, including food and medical supplies, and working on creating more job opportunities for laborers.

The meeting discussed the effect of the coronavirus spread on economic indicators, including local consumption rate and the sectors of communication, tourism, health and medical care.

The meeting also shed light on the effect of the novel virus on domestic and foreign tourism, in light of the preventive measures and temporary closure procedures taken by many countries.
