18K Egyptian expats in Kuwait get benefits of ‘Takaful’ initiative: Amb.

CAIRO - 9 July 2020: More than 18,000 Egyptian expatriates in Kuwait benefited from “Takatuf” [means in English standing together] initiative that was launched by the Egyptian Embassy in Kuwait to help the financially-troubled expats amid the crisis of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. 

"The embassy offered those expats 6,000 food baskets, travel tickets, and temporary places for their residence," said Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait Tarek al-Qouni in a statement on Wednesday. He added that the embassy also paid their rents.

"The initiative was launched in April 2020 and helped a total of 110 Egyptian expats to return back home," he continued, expressing his gratitude to the Egyptian businessmen in Kuwait for their support for the initiative.

Due to the repercussions of the COVID-19 crisis, some of the Gulf States, including Kuwait, are deporting migrant workers to their homes. On July 9, the Kuwaiti Civil Aviation Authority announced that 1,016 stranded Egyptian expats left Kuwait on board of six flights, the Egyptian news agency MENA reported.
