CAIRO - 11 June 2020: Ministry of Health has launched a campaign, in cooperation with Facebook, encouraging citizens to donate blood.

This campaign is expected to encourage those who recovered from COVID-19 to donate their blood plasma to be used in treating critical cases.

A statement by the ministry explained that any person aged 18 years old will be able to register as a donor via Facebook, and will receive messages on the blood donation centers. The persons can also invite friends via Facebook to be donors.

Persons from 18 to 65 years old, living in Egypt, can register as donors through the “Donate Blood” service on Facebook or by visiting this link:

Donors will receive messages on their phones from any of the 28 branches of the national centers for blood donations, including five branches allocated for receiving plasma from COVID-19 recovered patients.

The statement stressed the importance of donating blood at this critical time, ensuring that all the precautionary measures are taken to guarantee the safety of the donors.

It further signaled the partnership, the first in the Middle East region, as an important step to help reach sufficient stock of blood to support the Egyptian health system.
