Medical team fighting Coronavirus - Reuters
CAIRO - 5 May 2020: "Professor of neurosurgery at Al-Azhar University Mahmoud el-Hindawy died of coronavirus," announced Secretary General of Medical Syndicate Ehab el-Tahir.
Hindawy was a professor of neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine of Al-Azhar University for Girls. By his death, the number of doctors who passed away after infection with COVID-19 rises to eight.
The Doctors’ Syndicate mourned the death of Mamdouh el-Sayed, the head of the Ambulance Department in Sohag, who died Friday of coronavirus.
Vice-Dean of Medicine Faculty at Cairo University Hisham el-Saket was also infected with coronavirus and died Monday morning at Obour Hospital at Ain Shams University.
“The syndicate does not have an accurate count of the number of doctors infected with COVID-19, but according to the latest statistics received, the number of infections reached 90 doctors, and the figure is expected to increase,” said Secretary General of Medical Syndicate Ehab el-Tahir.
The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a report on April 13, in which it stated that the number of infections in medical teams represent 13 percent of the number of infections across Egypt.
