CAIRO – 29 April 2020: The Ministry of Civil Aviation operated a total of 18 exceptional flights to return stranded Egyptians abroad amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Official sources at the ministry said that all flights departed Cairo International Airport, and arrived at Marsa Alam International Airport, where the quarantine for Egyptian passengers exists.
Sources added that the ministry is planning to operate four more exceptional flights; such flights will conclude on May 5.
On Tuesday, Marsa Alam International Airport received an exceptional flight operated by AirCairo to return 148 Egyptian passengers stranded in Indonesia, Oman due to suspending flights to Egyptian airports.
Egyptians returning from abroad stay for 14 days in quarantine in one of the tourist villages in Marsa Alam in accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Health to make sure they are not infected with the coronavirus.
Egypt has suspended flights since March 19, with exception to five cases: Air cargo flights, international ambulance trips, domestic flights within the country, and charter trips to enable tourists to return to their countries after the end of their programs, without allowing in new tourists.
