CAIRO – 24 April 2020: The Marsa Alam International Airport, in the southeast of Egypt, is prepared to receive nine exceptional flights to bring back Egyptians stranded abroad from different countries, after flights were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Egypt's Embassy in Maldives said Friday a flight would be operate on April 30 to repatriate the Egyptians, stranded in the country after suspending the international flights due to the outbreak of coronavirus globally.
On its social media accounts, the embassy said that the Air Cairo flight will be operated from Malé to Marsa Alam, where the passengers are due to be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival in Egypt, amid the protective and precautionary measures to halt the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
In Kenya, Egypt's embassy said an Air Cairo flight will be operate on April 30 to repatriate the Egyptians, stranded after suspending the international flights due to the outbreak of coronavirus globally.
In a statement, the embassy added that the flight would be operated from Cairo- Addis Ababa- Nairobi, then Marsa Alam, where the passengers are due to be quarantined for two weeks upon arrival in Egypt.
This comes few days after Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi noted that around 3,500 Egyptians are still stranded abroad over coronavirus, affirming that authorities are committed to bringing them back despite "hard circumstances".

On Thursday, Egypt has reported its largest daily toll of coronavirus infection, after announcing 232 positive cases and 11 deaths.
Health Ministry Spokesman Khaled Megahed said that all of the new cases are Egyptians.
The new cases raise the total number of confirmed COVID-19 patients in Egypt to 3,891 and deaths to 287, Megahed added.
The number of coronavirus cases whose tests turned from positive to negative increased to 1,334, including 1,004 people who recovered from the virus. All positive cases were quarantined at hospitals, the spokesman said.
Shortly before the daily report was issued, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said in a press conference that he expects the total number of coronavirus cases to increase during the next period in Egypt.
