Blue-collar workers in Egypt were directed to use face masks, protective measures, to help curb the COVID-19 pandemic
CAIRO – 10 April 2020: Egypt’s Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawy stressed on Friday the necessity of providing blue-collar workers and dustmen with the necessary protective gear and masks to help curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country.
The minister further added in a ministry statement that a set of safety instructions was introduced by the ministry, lying within a major protective plan directed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The ministry statement demanded governors to communicate and coordinate with companies and contractors to apply the utmost precautions to provide safety and care requirements for workers, in addition to raising awareness against the virus.
Shaarawy stressed the importance of the conservatives' follow-up to the efforts of companies and contractors by taking the precautionary measures required to purify and sterilize various work sites so as to achieve safety and protection for workers.
He further added that Mr. President Sisi has ordered protective masks to be distributed over dustmen and janitors for free.
New 139 cases of coronavirus, COVID-19 and 15 deaths have been announced, Thursday, by Egypt’s Ministry of Health, bringing the total number of infections to 1,699 and deaths to 118.
It was added that the number of coronavirus cases whose tests turned from positive to negative increased to 468, including 348 people who recovered from the virus.
