CAIRO - 5 March 2020: Egypt’s Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed on Thursday the third case of coronavirus in Egypt.
The infected person is an Egyptian national who came from Serbia and transited through France for 12 hours, the ministry said in a statement, added that few days after his arrival, the 44-year-old patient headed to a hospital where he was tested positive for the virus.
The ministry spokesperson Khaled Megahed said in the statement that the new case has been quarantined, noting that the ministry has notified the WHO with the new cases.
Megahed affirmed that all the state’s hospitals and medical institutions are on high alert in anticipation of appearing any new cases.
Four days ago, the ministry announced the second case, saying he is a Canadian expert working for an oil company located 120 kilometers from the north-western governorate of Matrouh.
The second case developed a high temperature on Sunday and other symptoms of the virus appeared, the ministry said, adding that he was diagnosed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and tested positive for the new disease.
Egypt was the first African country that reported a Coronavirus case for a Chinese person early February. Two days ago, the Ministry spokesperson said in a statement that the Chinese patient was tested negative after receiving the treatment and that he is not in quarantine anymore.
