Cabinet: Navigation at Suez Canal not affected by coronavirus

CAIRO - 14 February 2020: The cabinet denied reports circulated on some websites and social media pages claiming that the navigation movement at the Suez Canal has been affected due to the spread of coronavirus in China.

The cabinet media center said in a statement Friday that it has contacted the Suez Canal Authority, which dismissed these reports stressing that navigation movement at the Suez Canal is normal.

It added that the navigation of ships at the international waterway rose 8.5 percent during January 2020, recording 1,645 vessels passing in the two sides, compared to 1,516 ships during the same month a year earlier.
