CAIRO - 13 February 2020: Health Minister Hala Zayed announced that the ministry will start a polio vaccination campaign in mid-March.
Zayed’s remarks came during the weekly meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli.
Zayed pointed out that the campaign aims to vaccinate all the children across Egypt, whether they Egyptians or foreigners. She clarified that the polio vaccine amounts are sufficient to vaccinate 6 million children.
It is noteworthy that the last polio case was registered in Egypt in 2004. In 2006, the World Health Organization announced that Egypt is free of the disease; the Ministry of Health implements annual national campaigns to raise the immune status of children under 5 years of age.
