CAIRO – 2 August 2019: Egypt’s Ministry of Interior granted all inmates nationwide one exceptional visit on the occasion of Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice), which falls this year on Aug.11.
The visit will not be deducted from the number of legalized visits granted to prisoners throughout their jail term, according to a Monday statement.
It was stated that the exceptional visit comes as part of the ministry’s keenness to uphold the values of human rights alongside the application of its penal policy and modern correctional system.
In December 2018, the Cabinet approved a presidential decree pardoning some prisoners on the occasion of the Police Day and January Revolution.
According to the constitution, the president has the right to issue pardons for convicted prisoners after consulting with the Cabinet.
