Al-Azhar keen on promoting coexistence among Africans: Grand Imam

CAIRO - 25 June 2019: Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayyeb said Monday that Al-Azhar is responsible for spreading the right Islamic thought and confronting extremism and terrorism as well as promoting coexistence principles among African people.

Tayyeb's speech came during a meeting with Sierra Leone's Ambassador in Cairo Morie Fofana.

Tayyeb stated that Al-Azhar is ready for training imams in Sierra Leone to deal with contemporary issues and developments,in addition to offering more scholarships to students.

For his part, Fofana thanked the grand imam for Al-Azhar's care for his country's students, saying Freetown is looking forward to more support from the Islamic institution in different domains to face the deviant thoughts.
