CAIRO – 2 June 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi begins a second presidential term (2018-2022) on Saturday after swearing in the oath in an exceptional session at the Parliament.
Tight security measures have been reported at the headquarters of the parliament ahead of the arrival of President Sisi’s motorcade.
Sisi swept the presidential election held in March. He won with more than 97 percent of the votes against his rival Moussa Moustafa Moussa. He swore in for his first presidential term in 2014 before the General Assembly of the Supreme Constitutional Court due to the absence of the parliament at that time.
According to the Constitution, Sisi’s first presidential term ends on June 3, 2018. Swearing before the Parliament will be applied for the first time since 2005 when former President Hosni Mubarak took the oath for the last time.

Sisi begins second term with a speech to the public
Sisi asked the attendants of the parliament for a minute of Silence for the military and police martyrs.
Sisi: I pledged to save the country’s constitutions and interests.
Sisi: I renew my pledge to continue the development to face the challenges, preserve our national unity and bring its stability.
Sisi: I responded to your call to be the head of the salvation front, and to get rid of those who misuse religion teachings.
Sisi: Al-Azhar Institute is the platform of the moderate Islam and the Church is the symbol of the peace. Egypt’s Churches are being secured by our brave police forces.
Sisi: Egyptian women along with all family members are on building and constructing the country.
Sisi: Since I have assumed power, I put a comprehensive reform plan. We launched a number of mega projects aiming to increase the countrys' resources.
Sisi: Education, heath, and culture will be my our priorities during the second term.
Sisi: Egypt will pursue to enhance its balanced relations with all regional and international parties.
Sisi: Egypt abides by the principle of non-interference in other countrys' affairs.
Sisi: All people have the right to political discussions and negotiations, except for those who commit and incite violence and terrorism.
Sisi: Egyptians, I pledge to dedicate myself for you and for keeping Egypt’s superior status in the world.
Sisi concludes his speech with: Long live Egypt, Long Live Egypt

Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal gives speech
Egypt’s Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal gave a speech addressing President Sisi after swearing in for a second term, “You have fulfilled what you have pledged.”
He said that the past four years have witnessed major achievements like: the inauguration of the New Suez Canal, the rise of foreign reserves, the decrease of the unemployment rate and the release of hundreds of detained youth.
He further added that “Egyptians succeeded to overcome all ordeals and pains” as their country faced huge challenges, on top of which is terrorism.
“You managed to reinstate Egypt’s prestigious place in the world, particularly among the Gulf States and African countries,” Abdel Aal added, saying that Egypt exerted great effort to reach inter-Palestinian reconciliation.

Sisi officially takes oath; 21-gun salute performed

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi officially took the oath:
“I swear by God Almighty to loyally uphold the republican system, to respect the Constitution and the law, to fully uphold the interests of the people and to safeguard the independence and territorial integrity of the nation.”
After swearing-in for a second term, 21-gun salute was performed.

National Anthem played
The national anthem was played when President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrived at the parliament headquarters downtown Cairo to swear in for a second 4-year term.
Sisi was escorted by the House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel Aal, and the Minister of Defense Sedki Sobhi.

The event is the first of its kind in the Egyptian parliament since former President Hosni Mubarak took the oath in 2005. Sisi’s first oath was performed at the Constitutional Court in 2014
