CAIRO - 24 May 2018: The crises in Palestine and Syria were among the topics discussed by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan on Wednesday, where they tackled the Egyptian efforts to bring Palestinian factions together.

The two leaders emphasized their continuing support to the Palestinians right to an independent state with Eastern Jerusalem as a capital, and stressed the importance of resuming negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis to achieve the two-state resolution.

The lack of a fair and comprehensive solution to the suffering of the Palestinians leads to further regional instability, while the Arab peace initiative presents “new horizons” for the future of the Middle East, according to a statement by Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Similarly, they discussed a “political solution” in Syria, one that maintains its territorial integrity, provides security and stability for the Syrian people and ends their humanitarian suffering.

Sisi received the Jordanian King at Cairo Airport and later enjoyed a banquet at dusk to break their fast. King Abdullah stressed the importance of coordination with Egypt as a “key pillar of security regionally and internationally.”
