Saudi Cabinet approves cooperation agreements after Sisi visit

CAIRO – 25 April 2017: The Saudi Cabinet approved Monday two cooperation agreements in fields of maritime transportation and ports during a session chaired by King Salman, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Additionally, the Cabinet gave its nod to an MOU in the field of agriculture between the Ministries of Agriculture in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The MOU was initially signed in Cairo, SPA added.

The decisions come just after President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s meeting with King Salman Sunday at the Egyptian-Saudi summit that had been scheduled to take place between the two leaders in an effort to ease the tension that clouded bilateral relations for months.

“The summit’s meetings are expected to re-activate a bundle of economic agreements worth $25 billion signed a year ago between the two parties,” Abdulah Mahfouz, the deputy head of the Saudi-Egyptian Business Council, said Thursday, according to Russia Today.

President Sisi had previously met the Saudi king, Salman bin Abdul Aziz, on the sidelines of the 27th Arab Summit that took place March 30 in Jordan, where Salman invited the Egyptian leader to visit Saudi Arabia.
