CAIRO – 10 December 2017: Egyptian lawyers held on Sunday a protest outside the Bar Association headquarters in downtown Cairo announcing their refusal of U.S.
President Donald Trump’s decision of recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
New protests flared in the Middle East for the third day over Trump’s declaration that the U.S. Embassy is to be moved to Jerusalem which has drawn global condemnation and sparked days of unrest in the Palestinian territories as well as Arab region, according to AFP.
Egyptian lawyers expressed their solidarity with Jerusalem’s case through chanting slogans and carrying signs reading in Arabic: "Be angry, by blood and soul, Jerusalem will not be lost."
On Wednesday night, U.S. President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel during a televised speech from the White House.
Trump’s decision was met by a barrage of criticism and condemnations from many Arab and world leaders. Protests have since broken out in the Gaza strip, West Bank and different locations across the Arab world.
At least 31 Palestinians have been wounded in clashes in the Gaza Strip and across the occupied West Bank during protests against the U.S. President’s decision.
Jerusalem is of huge importance to both Israelis and the Palestinians. It contains sites sacred to the three major monotheistic faiths: Judaism, Islam and Christianity.
