CAIRO – 10 August 2017: Egypt’s border guards managed to seize 1,300 kg of hashish, 31,000 kg of “bango” (cannabis) and 1.6 million anesthetic tablets between July 24 and August 8, 2017, according to statement by the army spokesman on Thursday.
The statement added that around 263 arms and large numbers of weapons/ammunition were seized as well over the stated period.
In cooperation with the naval forces, as the statement read, border guards managed to intercept 294 illegal immigrants, in addition to seizing smuggled goods.
Those goods included smuggled mobile phones, weapons, munitions, medicine and cattle.
This came within the armed forces’ ongoing intensified campaign to crackdown on illegal immigration and trafficking, to eradicate terrorist breeding grounds, and to stop them from obtaining access to arms and weapons.
