CAIRO – 16 December 2024: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Monday King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan. The two leaders held a closed-door bilateral meeting, followed by expanded talks attended by the two sides’ delegations.
Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the meeting focused on the regional situation and efforts to coordinate positions, particularly with regard to the developments in the Palestinians territories.
President Sisi and King Abdullah II underscored the imperative of an immediate and urgent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and of providing unfettered and unconditional access for desperately-needed humanitarian aid and relief into the sector.
The two leaders reiterated their categorical rejection of the liquidation of the Palestinian issues, the forced displacement of the Palestinians from their lands, and any attempts to undermine the two-state solution or procrastinate its achievement. They acknowledged that the establishment of an independent Palestinian State, along the June 4,1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the sole guarantor of enduring peace and stability in the Middle East.
During their talks, President El-Sisi and H.M. King Abdullah II discussed the developments in Syria. They concurred on the need to support the Syrian State, notably in light of Egypt and Jordan’s membership in the Arab Ministerial Contact Committee on Syria. They affirmed the significance of preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Syria as well as the security of its people. The two leaders also reinforced the paramount importance of commencing a comprehensive and inclusive political process, encompassing all components and factions of the Syrian people.
The two leaders also addressed the situation in Lebanon, welcoming the ceasefire agreement. They emphasized the necessity of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, confirming their commitment to the security, sovereignty and stability of Lebanon. President El-Sisi and H.M. King Abdullah II also asserted their rejection of any aggression against Lebanon, highlighting the need for all parties to exercise responsibility so as to end the ongoing escalation in the region.
During the meeting, President El-Sisi and H.M. King Abdullah II also welcomed the ongoing coordination and consultations between the two countries, which demonstrates the vital importance of Egyptian-Jordanian relations and the two countries’ aspirations to forge closer bilateral cooperation across an array of domains, to fulfill the ambitions of the two peoples.
