Egypt to launch National Plan for Combating Drugs Monday

CAIRO - 9 November 2024: Egypt is set to launch the National Plan for Combating Drugs and Reducing the risks of Drug abuse and addiction. 

Under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Drug Abuse, headed by Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chairman of the Fund’s Board of Directors, will organize a major event on Monday, to launch the National Plan for Combating Drugs and Reducing the Risks of Drug Abuse and Drug Addiction.

The most important axes of the plan’s work will be reviewed during the coming period in the presence of the concerned ministries and institutions, Dr. Amr Othman, Director of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Drug Abuse, international organizations, and representatives of partner international organizations.

Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Drug Abuse, had witnessed the closing activities of the "Our Strength is in Our Youth" Camp to build the capacities of 1,000 new volunteers out of a total of 4,000 young men and women who applied to join the Fund's Volunteer Association.

Interviews were conducted with the participations, and a number of volunteers were selected after they passed the tests as they had the ability to communicate and work in teams, as well as in the field, and also had various talents to invest in implementing awareness programs.

They were trained through the camp, which lasted for a week at the Youth City affiliated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Alexandria Governorate, to implement drug prevention programs, within the framework of keenness to invest the positive energies of young people and prepare training programs that qualify them as leaders for volunteer work, to participate in implementing awareness initiatives to protect young people from falling into the clutches of addiction, so that the total number of volunteers at the Fund currently reaches 34,000 volunteers across the governorates of the Republic.
