Cabinet contracts with Cairo Univ. to raise efficiency of air quality monitoring stations

CAIRO - 24 October 2024: The Cabinet approved in its meeting Wednesday headed by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, to contract with Cairo University to raise the efficiency of the stations  for monitoring ambient air pollutants. 
 
The Cairo University will be represented by the Center for Risk Reduction and Environmental Studies and Research, aiming to raise the efficiency of the stations of the National Network for Monitoring Ambient Air Pollutants, affiliated with the Environmental Affairs Agency, at the Ministry of Environment, for a period of one year starting from December 1, 2024 until November 30, 2025.
 
Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek, President of Cairo University, confirmed that the Cabinet considers the center as one of the government expertise houses based on its experience for many years in the operations of raising the efficiency of Air Pollutants monitoring stations.
 
The university president added that the Risk Reduction Center has wide participation in many national projects, which are being implemented in various regions, in support of the national state's efforts, and within the framework of its societal role, to achieve sustainable development, according to Egypt's Vision 2030.
 
Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek explained that among these projects are:
 
- The National Network Project for Monitoring Air Pollutants at the level of all governorates.
 
- The project to prepare the main executive plans for solid waste management for the governorates of Sharkia, Suez, Fayoum and Beni Suef which is called "National Solid Waste Management Program".
 
- The project to support the German Agency for International Cooperation for the Waste Management Regulatory Agency in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ)
 
- The consulting work project to prepare geological and geotechnical studies for the new city of Sohag.
 
For her part, Dr. Rasha El-Nashar, Director of the Risk Reduction Center, indicated that the center, in light of the directives of the university administration headed by Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek, President of the University, provides its services to the community in the fields of: addressing various environmental problems, urban planning studies, industrial expansions, sound environmental management of hazardous materials, water management, and combating air pollution while reducing harmful emissions.
 
The center also holds and organizes conferences, workshops, and courses on various environmental fields and addressing their problems and preserving them inside and outside Egypt.
 
The Risk Reduction Center was established in the Faculty of Science in 1989 and is one of the most important centers at Cairo University.
