CAIRO - 17 October 2024: Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent Hospital in Gaza Bashar Murad,  said that the Palestinian health system has been going through a difficult period since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the strip.

He added that more than 34 hospitals in Gaza were put out of service as a result of their destruction and bombing.

The Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent Hospital confirmed in a phone call with Al-Qahera News TV channel, "The current period is very difficult for health service providers, especially in the northern Gaza area, which is being subjected to annihilation and all the passages and roads leading to it have been closed, in addition to directly targeting buildings, hospitals, clinics and ambulances."

He explained that there are only 3 hospitals operating in northern Gaza and 4 in Gaza City, in addition to two hospitals in Deir al-Balah and the middle, and two others in Khan Yunis, noting that most of the main central hospitals that provided distinguished health services and operations were  destroyed by the occupation forces in a systematic manner.

He pointed out that there is no safe humanitarian corridor for civilians to exit and for medical aid to be brought in for patients and the injured in the Gaza Strip, but the Ministry of Health was able to establish an emergency department at Al-Shifa Medical Complex to deal with emergency cases at the present time, although the hospital is still out of service after its destruction.

He pointed out that the Al-Quds Hospital affiliated with the Palestinian Red Crescent used to house more than 14,000 displaced persons and is the only one that performs open heart surgeries, cardiac catheterization, intensive care and major operating rooms in the Strip, but it was burned and large parts of it were destroyed.

He stressed that hospitals suffer from a severe shortage of medical supplies and medicines, so most of them have stopped all scheduled surgeries, and now all hospitals are working to save lives.
