CAIRO – 13 August 2024: Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels Tarek Gouely announced that the German company Siemens has completed the manufacturing of 12 trains for the first phase of the high-speed electric train line connecting Ain Sokhna, El Alamein, and Matrouh.

He added that Siemens is continuing to work on producing the remaining trains as agreed, noting that the trial operations are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026, initially covering the route from Sokhna to the 6th of October station. Subsequent trials will follow for the remaining sections.

Additionally, Gouely noted that starting next December, trains for the high-speed line between Sokhna and Matrouh will be imported at a rate of five trains per month, serving both passengers and freight.

The first line extends on 675 kilometers between Ain Sokhna and Matrouh through New Alamain. The second stretches on 1,100 kilometers between 6th of October City and Abou Simbel through Luxor and Aswan. The third lies on 220 kilometers between Qena and Safaga through Hurghada. The fourth runs on 2,250 kilometers between Port Said and Abou Qir.
