CAIRO - 16 July 2024: His Eminence the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, received Tuesday Ambassador Dan Manbouda, Rwanda’s Ambassador to Cairo to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation.
 
During the visit, the Rwandan ambassador affirmed his happiness at meeting the Grand Imam, his appreciation for the efforts made by his eminence to promote the values ​​of brotherhood and coexistence, and his appreciation for the support that Al-Azhar provides to Rwanda. 
 
The Rwandan ambassador also stressed his country’s endeavor to raise the level of cooperation and coordination with Al-Azhar by increasing Al-Azhar scholarships for Rwandans, especially in fields of applied sciences; such as: medicine, pharmacy, engineering, and agriculture. 
 
He also asked the Grand Imam to increase the trainings offered to Rwandan imams at the Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams and Preachers, and establishing Azhar institutes in Rwanda. To be the nucleus for establishing a branch of Al-Azhar University in the country.
 
For his part, the Grand Imam stressed the strength of the relations between Egypt and Rwanda, and Al-Azhar’s readiness to increase the number of Al-Azhar envoys and the 26 scholarships it provides to children of Muslims in Rwanda annually, in a way that suits Rwandan society and its internal challenges, and to allocate half of the scholarships to study medicine, pharmacy, engineering, and agriculture.
