CAIRO – 5 July 2024: In a historic turn of events, Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, has emerged as Britain's next prime minister following a decisive victory in the general election.

The appointment was made official during an audience at Buckingham Palace, where King Charles III appointed Starmer to the position, indicating the transfer of power from the Conservative Party to Labour.

The Labour Party's triumph brings an end to 14 years of Conservative rule, which has been marked by periods of public discontent.

Starmer has already set forth a vision to rebuild Britain and tackle the pressing challenges facing the nation.

With a substantial majority in the 650-seat parliament, the centre-left Labour Party secured a clear mandate from the electorate.

The Conservative Party, led by Rishi Sunak, experienced their worst performance in history, bearing the brunt of voters' frustration over issues such as the cost of living and inadequate public services.

In his triumphant speech, Starmer declared, “We did it. Change begins now... We promised to end the chaos, and we will.”

“We promised to turn the page, and we have. Today, we embark on the next chapter, commencing the work of change, the mission of national renewal, and the process of rebuilding our country.”

Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak, in a final address outside Downing Street, expressed his apology to the nation.

Accepting responsibility for the Conservative Party's defeat, Sunak acknowledged the electorate's demand for a change in government.

“To the country I would like to say first and foremost I am sorry,” Sunak said in a final speech outside Downing Street.

“I have given this job my all, but you have sent a clear signal that the government of the United Kingdom must change, and yours is the only judgment that matters. I have heard your anger, your disappointment and I take responsibility for this loss.”

As the new prime minister, Keir Starmer faces the immense task of steering the United Kingdom through a period of transformation and renewal to reshape the nation's future.
