CAIRO - 14 June 2024: The European Union's official spokesman for the Middle East and North Africa, Luis Bueno, confirmed continued coordination with Egypt, Jordan and partners in the region in order to calm the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Bueno, who is the EU's first Arabic speaking media officer for the MENA region, explained - in a statement to Al-Qahera News TV Channel on Friday - that the European Union seeks, through diplomatic channels, to continue pressuring Hamas and Israel to implement the American proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, stressing the necessity of stopping the Israeli war, especially after more than 8 months ofa destruction, and thousands of civilian deaths and injuries.

He added that the UN Security Council's decision to cease fire in Gaza is binding on all parties, stressing that the European position is unified towards implementing this resolution immediately and urgently, as well as implementing the relevant UN resolutions.

The European Union's official spokesman for the Middle East and North Africa, Luis Bueno, called on the international community to make every effort through all available channels and tools to implement the ceasefire decision in Gaza, stressing that the Palestinian issue is an international issue and not just a regional one.

Bueno noted that the European Union supports the efforts of the mediators (Egypt, Qatar, and the United States); to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, calling for the need to find appropriate ways to implement the Security Council resolution in this regard.

He explained that the European Union is cooperating with the Palestinian Authority and UN agencies to send humanitarian and relief aid, as much as possible to civilians who suffer from food insecurity and malnutrition.

He stressed that conflicts around the world have reached their peak due to the absence of a mechanism for implementing UN Security Council resolutions, and that the international community suffers from divisions within it that prevent the calming of conflicts and situations in the region.

European Union spokesman Luis Miguel said that we are seeking through diplomatic channels to pressure Israel and Hamas to accept the American proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Miguel added, during his statements on Al-Qahera News TV channel, that European countries in the Security Council voted in favor of a ceasefire in Gaza despite the division of member states.
