Thousands of Gazans receive medical treatment, psychological support since war outbreak

CAIRO – 3 May 2024: Around 13,000 Palestinians from Gaza, including those with serious injuries and their companions, have received treatment at Egyptian hospitals, stated Spokesman of the Ministry of Health Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

During a TV interview with Sada El-Balad channel on Wednesday, Abdel Ghaffar mentioned that numerous complex surgeries in various specialties have been performed for the evacuees from Gaza since the start of the war.

Egypt has allocated 150 ambulances in the city of Rafah, with 50 permanently stationed at the Rafah border crossing to receive injured individuals from Gaza, he added.

Furthermore, the ministry has provided 10,628 psychological support sessions for 927 Palestinians, as stated in a statement by Abdel-Ghaffar on Friday.

In conjunction, these individuals are receiving treatment for burns, bruises, or fractures in 10 hospitals located in the governorates of North Sinai, Port Said, Ismailia, and Cairo.

Egypt began receiving seriously injured Palestinians and their companions on November 1, three weeks after the start of the war on October 7.

Additionally, Egypt has facilitated the evacuation of tens of thousands of foreign passport holders, their relatives, as well as thousands of stranded Egyptians from the strip during the war.

In April, Diaa Rashwan, the Head of the State Information Service, announced that Egypt safely evacuated 66,750 foreign passport holders and 6,330 Egyptians from Gaza.

Egypt has also sent about a quarter of a million tons of aid, including food, medicine, water, and fuel, to Gaza, which came from local organizations, other countries, and relief agencies.

The Israeli war has resulted in the death of over 34,500 Palestinians, injured more than 77,800, according to the health ministry in Gaza.

The unrelenting attacks also caused significant damage to the healthcare infrastructure in Gaza and displaced most of the population to the Palestinian Rafah city in southern Gaza, near Egypt’s border.
