UN High Commissioner for Refugees: Displacement of Palestinians to Sinai is a disaster

CAIRO – 16 February 2024: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees stated that any Israeli military ground offensive against the Gaza Strip and displacing Palestinians to Sinai would be a disaster.

In comments to Reuters on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Germany on Friday: “It would be a disaster for the Palestinians ... a disaster for Egypt and a disaster for the future of peace.”

Israel is planning to launch a military offensive in Rafah, which is the last stronghold of Hamas in Gaza. The Israeli government has said that the offensive is necessary to stop rocket fire from Gaza into Israel.
