CAIRO – 29 November 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed the importance of serious efforts by the international community to achieve fair and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause in accordance with the international legitimacy resolutions.

Sisi made a phone call with Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Wednesday, where they exchanged views on developments in the region and in the Palestinian territories, said the Egyptian Presidency in a statement.

Kishida was keen on getting a better understanding of Sisi’s vision on ways toward de-escalation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as endeavors aimed at firming-up the ongoing ceasefire and building on it to achieve a permanent one, the statement said.

The call also focused on Egypt’s efforts to provide relief aid to the people in the Strip. Kishida expressed Japan’s appreciation for Egypt’s role and efforts across the various relevant aspects of the current crisis and to reinforce stability in the region.

Moreover, the call tackled ways to enhance bilateral relations, in light of the firm and close bonds the two countries share. President El-Sisi and Japan’s Prime Minister also exchanged views on developments in the region and in the Palestinian territories.

Egypt has been calling for a resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict over the past decades, which has become more urgent amid the ongoing Israeli war against the Gaza Strip.

The war, which has calmed down due to the current temporary truce, has killed around 15,000 Palestinian civilians, most of which are women and children.
