CAIRO – 4 November 2023: Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said on Saturday that Egypt receives 40-50 injured Palestinians every day and is capable to receive much more on a daily basis.
In a press conference he held in Al-Arish Hospital, Abdel Ghaffar said Egyptian medical teams have been heavily present in North Sinai hospitals for over 20 days, preparing to provide emergency services to our Palestinian brothers.
About 150 ambulances are on standby throughout the day at the Rafah crossing and other stationing points in North Sinai, he said.
The minister affirmed that North Sinai hospitals are at the highest level of preparedness and the injured Palestinians are also transferred as needed to Port Said, Ismailia, and Cairo hospitals.
Most of the wounded Palestinians transferred from Gaza sustained serious injuries, the minister said, noting that at least 60% of them are children and women.
Some of the injured lost limbs, while some others had injuries in the brain, eyes, and lungs by shrapnel, the minister explained.
Abdel Ghaffar visited today the Al-Arish and Bir El-Abd hospitals to check on services provided to the injured Palestinians and ordered providing prosthetic limbs to those who need them.
The minister also visited the quarantine department at the Rafah crossing, urging teams to decisively deal with cases with infectious diseases.
Since Wednesday, the Rafah border crossing has been open for Palestinians who have sustained serious injuries as a result of the Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip.
Egypt has evacuated dozens of injured Palestinians and hundreds of foreigners and dual nationals over the past four days.
According to a statement by the Health Ministry on Saturday, 1,027 people of different nationalities have been examined after they were evacuated from Gaza through the crossing, while 172 children were vaccinated against polio and 85 others took the MMR vaccine.
