CAIRO - 9 October 2023: Bardawil Lake, on the coast of North Sinai, is one of the most important sources of fish wealth in Egypt due to its production of fish of all kinds, which is characterized by the quality of its sources of nutrition and natural breeding, in addition to the fact that the lake attracts thousands of workers, including fishermen and fishing assistants.
Bardawil Lake is one of the most important Egyptian lakes free of pollution, whether agricultural or industrial. The fish caught from the lake are of high quality, such as: bream, sea bass, wrasse, tobara, mullet family, plaice, shrimp, and crab.
Official data for Bardawil Lake indicate that the number of fishermen working in Lake Bardawil has reached more than 3,500 fishermen, and the lake is their source of livelihood. The number of fishing boats currently operating in Lake Bardawil has now reached 1,228 boats.
Dr. Shukri Salman, Director of Bardawil Lake, said that there is an ice factory to serve fishermen, export operations, and transportation to local markets, whether in the governorate or in other governorates of the Republic.
He pointed out that Bardawil Lake is one of the purest lakes in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the world, with an area of 165 thousand acres, and is characterized by a natural environment that contributes to the production of many high-quality fish with an international reputation, such as: bream, sea bass, sea bass, and the mullet family. The new fishing season begins in April and ends in December.
He stressed that the production is disposed of by the fishermen and according to the market, supply and demand, stressing that the lake management provides all necessary support to the fishermen and provides their needs for the success of the fishing season.
Engineer Sami Suleiman Al-Hawari, director of the North Sinai Fisheries Resources District, pointed out that the length of the lake is 90 kilometers and its width ranges from one kilometer to 20 kilometers. Its area is 165 thousand acres, adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea, from the north, and separated from the sea by a narrow strip ranging from 200 to 200 kilometers. 1000 meters mixture of heterogeneous sand mixed with shells.
He continued that the fishing movement and fishermen are served by three production receiving marinas, which are “Al-Taloul” marina, Ghagziwan marina, and Al-Nasr marina. North Sinai Governorate announced the provision of a variety of services to fishermen through the Supply Directorate to regulate fishing by boat, by providing fuel at stations at anchorages, and fuel is regularly dispensed to fishermen.
The lake has an ice production factory, a foam factory, and fish gathering places, and all needs are followed up in coordination with the lake management and authorities. Jurisdiction.
