CAIRO – 5 September 2023: The management and operation of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant in Dabaa city on the Mediterranean Sea will be completely transferred to the Egyptian side, Egyptian-Russian nuclear program coordinator Tariq Hussein told RT on Monday.

He stressed that the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority is technically and scientifically responsible for operating the Dabaa nuclear reactor in cooperation with the Russian company Rosatom.

He added that training programs for the Egyptian experts, who are affiliated with the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority, in Russia are still ongoing.

In October 2022, an official source at the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy confirmed that after operating the Dabaa nuclear power plant with a capacity of 4,800 megawatts, the volume of carbon dioxide emissions reduction will reach 14 million tons annually, which is equivalent to removing 3 million cars from the roads.

The source added that the intensive development of nuclear energy is one of the main means to combat global warming, as the volume of global carbon dioxide emissions reached nearly 32 billion tons annually and it continues to grow.

Under the auspices of President Sisi, Egypt’s government celebrated, for the first time, the Egyptian nuclear energy day on Monday, November 22, 2021.

In his speech, Prime Minister Moustafa Mabdouli said that Egypt, for many decades, paid more attention to nuclear energy as it is one of the pillars and strategic options to enhance development plans.
