Sudanese women representing about 50 NGOs support Sudan’s Neighboring States Summit hosted by Cairo

CAIRO – 13 July 2023: A group of Sudanese women representing about 50 NGOs from Sudan announced support for the Egyptian leadership for the initiative to host the summit of Sudan's neighboring countries due to convene on Thursday.

The eight-party summit seeks to find peaceful solutions to the Sudanese crisis that has broken out on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Sudanese Rapid Forces (SRF).

The one-day summit in Cairo also will discuss ways to end the negative repercussions of the Sudanese crisis on neighboring countries, with the participation of the leaders of Egypt, Libya, Chad, Central Africa, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Eritrea.

The summit aims to establish effective mechanisms to settle the crisis in Sudan in a peaceful manner and in coordination with other regional and international tracks, the Egyptian Presidency earlier announced.

The Sudanese delegation will be headed by Malik Agar, the deputy chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), and will include Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq, according to Al-Sudani news website.

Cairo hosted on Sunday the preparatory session for Sudan’s Neighboring States Summit at the level of Senior Officials.

Egypt has repeatedly called for a permanent ceasefire in Sudan, which would pave the way for resolving the ongoing conflict peacefully and stopping the bloodshed.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres voiced, on July 9, his concerns over the ongoing military clashes in Sudan, which could push the country to “the brink of a full-scale civil war” that could lead to the destabilization of the entire region.
