CAIRO – 19 June 2023: Egypt’s Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hanafi Jabali, said that he signed an agreement was signed to enhance cooperation between the Libyan and Egyptian parliaments.
He noted in a joint press conference with his Libyan counterpart Aguila Saleh, that under this signed agreement between the two houses, cooperation will be activated in all fields, including technical, administrative and financial.
Egypt’s Parliament Speaker added that, more official visits will be exchanged between the members of the two parliaments and its delegations, as well as in transferring and exchanging experiences between the two sides.
In his speech, Jabali affirmed that “The only body that has the right to issue laws within Libya is the House of Representatives.”
He added that the only demand of the Egyptian state is that “what the Libyan people desire be achieved”.
Jabali also affirmed that his visit along with the parliamentarian delegation aims at supporting the “Libyan-Libyan’ dialogue.
Egypt’s Speaker of the House of Representatives arrived at Benina International Airport on Monday morning, heading a high-level parliamentarian delegation as he was scheduled to deliver a speech in the Libyan Parliament, and then hold a meeting with Aguila Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan Parliament.
For his part, Aguila Saleh asserted Libya’s appreciation to the Egyptian key role supporting the Libyan institutions.
He reviewed, in his speech, some of the historical phases between the two countries, including the establishment of the resistance and the Libyan army in Egypt aiming to liberate Libya from the Italian occupation.
Regarding the political scene and the efforts of the "6 + 6" committee, Saleh stressed that the Libyan parliament will work with the State Council to form a government that will work on the presidential elections as soon as possible.
He stressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the "6 + 6" committee in order to bring points of view closer, and to organize the presidential and parliamentary elections.
