CAIRO – 10 May 2023: The National Dialogue said it would start to receive proposals of the Egyptian expats online on the website of the National Youth Conference.
“They have always been an essential part of the political and economic life in Egypt, and wherever they are, their homelands are not absent from [their minds],” the dialogue said on its Facebook page.
Egyptians abroad can send their proposals to be discussed at the dialogue’s sessions from the NYC website.
The National Dialogue kicked off last Wednesday, 3 May, after a year of preparations. The inaugural session saw the participation of officials, political parties, NGOs and opposition figures.
The dialogue was called by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to engage political parties, civil society, unions and societal representatives in discussing and finding solutions to the key political, economic and social issues.
During the opening session, Sisi delivered a recorded speech, where he stressed support to the National Dialogue and pledged to pave the way for its success.
Earlier this week, the dialogue’s board of trustees said it hopes for the release of more detainees and paving the way for “pluralistic presidential elections in a democratic environment”.
The board said it looks forward to the president continuing the consideration of further pardons during the coming period.
The board added that it also hopes that the Presidential Pardon Committee intensifies its legal efforts at the Public Prosecution and the relevant judicial authorities to release more pretrial detainees.
