Egypt's Suez Canal to launch 6 new tugboats, floating port by end of 2023

CAIRO – 17 March 2023: Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Admiral Osama Rabie checked up Sunday on the building of the tugboats "Mohamed Negm," "Mohamed al-Ghamry," and "Galal El Dib" at the Port Said Shipyard.

The progress rate of each is 48 percent, 29 percent, and 17 percent, respectively. The boats are part of a deal with Guangzhou Shipyard International so as three others have been built in China. Those are called Amin Zeid, Mohamed Beshir, and Nabil al-Helaly.

 

Each tugboat is 32 meters in length and12.8 meters in width, with a pull strength of 75 tons, and ASD propellers. Admiral Rabie directed launching the vessels according to schedule, starting the second half of 2023, by first running tests before they officially enter service.

 

The chairman of the Suez Canal Authority also visited the in-progress floating port dubbed "Pride of the Canal," which is planned to be finished in April and handed over to the Port Said Shipyard in June. The port's dimensions are 260 meters in length, 62 meters in width, and a capacity of 35,000 tons.
