CAIRO – 10 April 2023: Public employees will have their Eid Al-Fitr and Sinai liberation paid holidays from Thursday 20 April to Tuesday 25 April, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Monday.

The holiday will apply to employees in ministries, government institutions, public authorities, local administration units, and public sector companies, public business sector companies.

Eid Al-Fitr, translated as the feast of breaking fast, marks the end of the Muslims’ holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Sinai Liberation Day is a national holiday celebrated annually in Egypt on 25 April to mark the final withdrawal of all Israeli forces from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982.

The withdrawal of the Israeli forces took place after the US-brokered Camp David peace accords had been signed in 1979 by Egyptian President Anwar Al-Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin.
