CAIRO – 7 April 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi called on the world leaders to work tirelessly toward investing in health, as one of the major priorities at the international level.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization [WHO], President Sisi affirmed in a speech that Egypt and the WHO have a record of fruitful cooperation.
Sisi said that the celebration this year comes after difficult times the world has gone through, under the weight of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“These were the times that proved that health security will never be achieved through isolated individual action, but rather requires coordinated and collective efforts.” Sisi said.
He noted that Egypt was honored, since the middle of the last century, to host the Headquarters of the WHO’s Regional Office, which supports healthcare activities for more than 500 million citizens in 22 states in the Middle East.
“I would also like to highlight the cooperation between Egypt and the organization in the elimination of Hepatitis C virus in Egypt, within the framework of the “100 Million Health” initiative, which WHO considered as an unprecedented initiative, in terms of its massive scale and the quality and implementation.” Sisi said
He added that this leading initiative expanded to include a number of African and Asian countries, based on Egypt's sense of its responsibilities towards the international community and its belief in the importance of health solidarity.
Egypt also stressed in his speech Egypt’s full commitment to promoting and protecting public health and supporting the principles of health and justice to achieve sustainable health security for the whole humanity.
