CAIRO - 5 December 2022: The Ministry of Manpower participated in a meeting for the implementation of the National Plan to Combat the Worst Forms of Child Labor and Family Support in Egypt, in cooperation with the International Labor Organization, the Cairo office.
The meeting aimed to present what has been accomplished in Egypt's "national plan", and to present the tasks and formation of the Child Labor Combat Unit.
In the Ministry of Manpower, as part of the ACCEL AFRICA project, focusing on the protection and support of children, as part of the “Scream Program”.
During the meeting, a discussion took place on the draft national plan, and Ministerial Resolution No. 215 of 2021 regarding professions in which child labor is prohibited, then an open discussion was held tackling the activities of social partners to implement their roles in the national plan.
The Minister of Manpower, Hassan Shehata directed his speech to the audience, saying: "I am pleased to meet you today at the fourth meeting of the Steering Committee of the National Plan to Combat the Worst Forms of Child Labor and Support the Family in Egypt 2018-2025, which is my first meeting with you since I assumed the ministerial portfolio, and I was very pleased to know what has been accomplished so far."
He added, "the plan aims to contribute effectively to the elimination of child labor in all its forms by 2025, with an emphasis on providing Comprehensive social protection for targeted children and their families, within the framework of implementing Goal 8.7 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, as well as Egypt's strategy for sustainable development, Vision 2030."
The minister explained: "The importance of the issue of combating the worst forms of child labor is increasing day by day in light of the successive crises that began with the Corona pandemic, followed by the Ukrainian war and its grave repercussions on economic conditions and high inflation rates in the whole world, which put great pressure on the family, and children always bear it."
