CAIRO – 5 November 2022: Cyprus’s President Nicos Anastasiades will depart for Egypt to participate in the world leader’s summit of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which will take place in Sharm El Sheikh on November 7 and 8.

According to the director of the president’s press office, Andreas Iosif, on Sunday, Anastasiades will meet his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron next week as he makes several trips abroad, including to Egypt, Israel and France, Cyprus Mail reported.

In addition to his intervention during the Summit, Anastasiades “will present the Cyprus initiative to address climate change in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East region.”

On Wednesday, Anastasiades will travel to Israel at the invitation of the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog, who will present him with the country’s highest honor for his decisive contribution to further deepening the strategic cooperation between Cyprus and Israel.

In Israel, Anastasiades will also meet with the winner of the recent elections in the country, Benjamin Netanyahu, with whom he had “excellent cooperation during Netanyahu’s term as prime minister”.

Sharm El Sheikh has finalized all needed preparations for receiving guests of the "summit for maintaining peace on planet”.

The COP27 is due to open on Sunday in Egypt's Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh with a focus to urge developed countries to fulfill their climate commitments and turn climate pledges into action in all fields of climate action.

COP27 focuses on providing solutions that make climate action help solving community problems and crises, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Egypt Mahmoud Mohieldin said on Sunday.

The Sharm El Sheikh airport is on alert for receiving the summit guests.

Also, a number of buses was secured to transfer guests to their hotels.

Dozens of chiefs of state and representatives of states are due to take part in the event in addition to 45,000 people representing delegations and participants.
