CAIRO – 6 October 2022: First Lady Entissar Amer hailed the Sixth of October 1973 War victory as a “military miracle by all accounts” as she marked the 49th anniversary of the war on Thursday.

“Today we celebrate the 49th anniversary of the glorious October victory, in which our armed forces achieved a military miracle by all accounts,” Amer said in a social media post.

The war victory demonstrated “the valor of the Egyptian soldier and his courage in achieving victory and overcoming any obstacles or challenges,” the first lady said.

“Peace be upon the souls of our righteous martyrs, who shed their pure blood on the soil of this country in defense of it and its independence to preserve its dignity,” she added.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi also marked the war anniversary, saying this victory will remain a “proof of the will and steadfastness of the Egyptians and their adherence to the sovereignty and dignity of the nation.”

In a Facebook post, Sisi saluted the Egyptian people, the valiant armed forces, and the righteous martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

“The glorious October War will remain a turning point in our contemporary history, in which our armed forces restored the nation's honor and pride and erased the stain of occupation from its lands,” Sisi said.

The president also saluted the soul of late President Anwar El-Sadat, the hero of war and peace, who fought the 1973 War with confidence in God and his people to achieve a great victory.

In an address to the nation earlier this week to mark the war anniversary, Sisi has reiterated appreciation for Sadat for taking with “heroic courage” the peace decision after the 1973 victory against Israel.

“The peace decision [of Sadat] turned the pages of the past and opened future horizons for the entire region,” Sisi said as he attended a cultural symposium to mark the 49th anniversary of the Sixth of October War.

Sisi saluted the soul of the heroic martyr Sadat, calling him “the hero of war and peace who courageously made the [canal] crossing decision despite the specter of defeat that was haunting everyone.”

President Sisi hailed the October War in 1973 “the day of pride and dignity, in which the Egyptian Army defied the impossible”.

The 1973 victory is an immortal day in the conscience of the Egyptians as well as the entire Arab world and peace-loving peoples, Sisi affirmed.

He added that Egypt did not fight the 1973 War just to defend its land but also to achieve peace. “This is a matter that it succeeded in and has maintained”.
