Second Environmental marathon in Alexandria
CAIRO - 30 July 2022: The regional branch of the Environmental Affairs Agency in Alexandria organized Saturday the annual environmental marathon for the second year in a row to combat the negative impacts of climate changes.
The marathon was held in cooperation with the Alexandria Governorate, the Alexandria Security Directorate, the Egyptian Red Crescent, the Ambulance Authority and one of the NGOs.
This comes ahead, and amid preparations for Egypt's hosting of the Climate Change Conference ( Cop27), which is scheduled to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.
Nearly 500 young men and women of different age groups participated in the marathon. The marathon started in front of the historic Qaitbay Citadel to the Library of Alexandria and back for a total distance of 10 km.
The Qaitbay Citadel area is one of the most important historical areas overlooking the Mediterranean coast, and it was threatened by sea level rise as part of the possible negative effects of the climate change.
