CAIRO – 3 June 2022: The Energean Power floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) crossed the Suez Canal on Friday successfully, becoming the first FPSO to crass Egypt’s global trade route.
The vessel was towed and directed by four tugboats belonging to the canal and carrying a team of senior SCA guides, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie said.
It is the first trip for the Energean Power FPSO after being launched from Singapore heading toward the Mediterranean Sea, Rabie added.
The ship has a draft of more than 18.5 meters, a floating unit of a length of 227 meters and width of 58 meters, and a total tonnage of 92,680 tons, Rabie said, noting that this required the towing process to be carried out with high accuracy.
Nicolas Katcharov, Energean's, Country Manager in Egypt, for his part, expressed his appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with the SCA.
Katcharov praised the measures taken by the authority to facilitate the procedures for transiting the vessel and ensure its safety during its journey to the Mediterranean Sea to work in the natural gas fields there.
He added that the canal was the best and most optimal choice for the transiting vessel as it is safer and more time- and cost-effective alternative to taking a less competent route and having to go around Africa.
The Suez Canal achieved the highest monthly revenue in its history during May, marking an increase of 23 percent on a year on year basis, to reach $657 million, Rabie said earlier.
