CAIRO – 12 July 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received a phone call Wednesday from his Cypriot counterpart, Nicos Anastasiades, in which both leaders discussed a number of joint cooperation efforts between their countries, according to a presidential statement.
The Cypriot president praised the relationship between Egypt and Cyprus, stating that it has developed over the past years.
Anastasiades expressed his country's aspiration to continue its cooperation with Egypt to achieve the interests of both countries through following up on existing cooperation and the implementation of agreed joint projects in a number of areas.
Sisi asserted the importance of advancing economic and investment relations between the two countries, whether on a bilateral level or under the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Greece.
He also stated that Egypt is keen to strengthen cooperation with Cyprus in various fields so that both countries can take advantage of the available resources and opportunities of each other.
Sisi further expressed his appreciation for Cypriot support of Egypt’s efforts to consolidate security and stability in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions.
The phone call also included discussions on updates of regional issues, as the Cypriot president reviewed for Sisi the latest developments of the Cyprus crisis negotiations, which aim at reaching a peaceful settlement.
The Egyptian president concluded the phone call confirming Egypt’s firm and supportive stance for the reunification of the Cypriot territories in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the decisions of international legitimacy, according to Wednesday’s statement.
