Cairo University achieves great leap in Leiden global university ranking, advancing to 1st place in Africa

CAIRO – 15 March 2022: Cairo University has achieved a great leap in the Dutch classification of Leiden (CWTS), advancing 71 places, ranking the 1st in Africa and Egypt, and the 308th globally, announced President of Cairo University Mohamed Othman el-Khosht.

 

El-Khosht received a report on Cairo University’s position in the international rankings of the best universities in the world during the past four years. The report highlighted the great progress made during this period despite the conditions of Coronavirus pandemic and its impact on educational institutions worldwide.

 

The report indicated that Cairo University achieved 119 positions at the US-News classification level, with a rate of 23 percent during the current year, as it ranked 392 globally compared to 2017/2018, which ranked 511 globally. It also came first at the level of Egyptian universities in most classifications.

 

The report added that with regard to the Times English classification (THE), Cairo University has advanced about 200 positions by 20 percent, and the university has maintained its position in the Chinese classification (ARWU), in which it ranked first in Egyptian universities and among the top 500 universities at the level of universities.

 

Cairo University has also witnessed an unprecedented leap in the classification of international universities - CWUR, as it advanced 225 positions by 29 percent, as it ranked 546th globally among the 2000 universities included in the annual report for the ranking and the first at the level of Egyptian universities.

 

The report indicated that Cairo University topped the Spanish classification (Webometrics), as it came first in Egypt, with a progression of 112 places by 15 percent over the university’s classification in 2017/2018, and in the Spanish classification (Simago) it maintained its lead in Egyptian universities.
