CAIRO - 22 February 2022: Egypt's Ministry of Health announced Monday that 2,003 new coronavirus cases were detected, raising the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak in the country began to 471,460.
In a statement, the Spokesperson for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 54 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 23,806.
As many as 1,239 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 402,121 so far, the spokesman said.
On February 16th, the recovery rate from the coronavirus (COVID-19) at the Egyptian isolation hospitals reached 85 percent, after receiving the necessary medical care according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), said the Ministry of Health in a statement.
Last month, the Cairo International Airport received 4 million coronavirus vaccine doses from the United Kingdom, according to the British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley.
This is the largest vaccine shipment ever from the UK on the bilateral level between Europe and Africa, Bayley said, affirming that “no one is safe until everyone is safe”.
The United States of America announced on Sunday sending to Egypt a new delivery of 1.8 million doses of Pfizer vaccine, funded by the US government.
“So far, the US has delivered more than 21 million high-quality U.S. vaccine doses that will help protect the people of Egypt from coronavirus,” said the US embassy in Cairo.
On 16 January 2022, Egypt received 3 million doses of Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine, provided by the US, through COVAX in cooperation with GAVI Alliance.
