CAIRO – 18 February 2022: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Cypriot counterpart, President Nicos Anastasiades, agreed on the necessity to move forward with the implementation of the joint projects agreed upon within the framework of trilateral cooperation with Greece.
This will contribute to making this cooperation mechanism a role model for coordination and consultations between Mediterranean countries and reflect the special Egyptian-Cypriot special relations, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.
The presidents’ meeting comes as part of their participation in the Sixth European Union – African Union Summit in Brussels.
Sisi praised the continuous development in the Egyptian-Cypriot relations and the steady progress witnessed by the bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries.
The Egyptian president also praised the Cypriot positions in support of Egypt in regional and international forums and organizations.
Sisi stressed Egypt's keenness to continue activating cooperation frameworks and intensifying consultation on issues and files of common interest whether at the bilateral level or through the tripartite cooperation mechanism that brings together Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.
Anastasiades hailed the specificity of the historical ties between Egypt and Cyprus, stressing Cyprus’s aspiration to take more steps in order to consolidate the frameworks of bilateral cooperation and friendship existing between the two countries, as well as to continue strengthening the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Greece.
This comes especially in light of the role that Egypt plays as a pillar stability in the Middle East, as well as its efforts to combat terrorism and illegal immigration, Anastasiades said.
The meeting witnessed discussions on ways to enhance the strong historical relations between the two countries and the existing cooperation between them at various levels.
