CAIRO – 11 February 2022: German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will start her first official visit to Egypt starting Friday to discuss the bilateral relations, cooperation in preparation for COP 27 conference due to convene in Sharm El Sheikh In November 2022.
She would meet Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry as well as other members of the Egyptian government, said the German embassy in Cairo in a statement.
Baerbock plans to discuss Egyptian-German relations and important regional issues that involve Egypt and Germany, the statement added.
She will also explore areas of cooperation in connection with the upcoming 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP 27), to be hosted by Egypt.
“I am pleased with such an early visit by the new Foreign Minister, which signals our keen interest in continuing the high-level dialogue with Egypt on all regional and bilateral matters, as well as on worldwide cooperation in climate protection,” ambassador Frank Hartmann commented.
German FM’s visit to Egypt comes amid the ongoing Ukraine-Russia crisis as Europe fears possibly cutting off natural gas supply; Egypt is right now seen as a possible key supplier of natural gas to Europe.
