WHO recommends 3rd booster dose to protect against COVID infection

CAIRO – 9 February 2022: The World Health Organization held a press conference Wednesday, providing the latest developments in confronting Coronavirus, ensuring the importance of a third dose “booster” to protect against the infection.

 

In her speech, Director of WHO’s Programs Department, Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr. Rana Al-Hajja said: “We recommend the booster dose for those who received the second dose, and their immunity was low, and it is a third dose, not a fourth dose, and justice must be achieved to deliver vaccines to the largest possible number.”

 

She added that some countries have only vaccinated 10 percent of their population. Serious and fatalities, indicating that the organization recommends the booster dose of the vaccine.

 

Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, said: "We are working to provide vaccines in cooperation with other partnerships, and the challenge is still great to provide full funding and access to some places, explaining that 17.5 million migrants are present in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, and there are 21 Millions of displaced people in the region.

 

He further indicated that Egypt, Kuwait and Lebanon have contributed to various programs for the displaced and migrants, and cooperation is continuing to vaccinate more people.

 

For his part, Dr. Muhammad Shafiq, the regional advisor for risk communication and inter-agency community engagement and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, said that

 

“Some believe that the pandemic is not dangerous, and therefore do not commit to wearing masks, but we work with influencers to communicate with these people through social media to deny these rumors, and call on for the importance to wear masks,” said Dr. Muhammad Shafiq, the regional advisor for risk communication and inter-agency community engagement and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
